About

By nature of their job, first responders are responsible for keeping their communities safe. Those who continue to serve others beyond the call of duty? They’re National Life Do Good Heroes, and we’re here to help you honor them.

Do Good Heroes is a program that lets agents of National Life Group recognize fire-rescue-EMS and police departments and personnel for community service activities above and beyond their public safety duty. Our program provides ongoing recognition for the hard work first responders are doing as National Life Do Good Heroes.

How It Works

Any agent contracted with National Life Group can nominate their first responders as National Life Do Good Heroes. It’s simple and only takes a few minutes of your time. All you need is:

✓ The name of your nominee

✓ The location where your nominee works

✓ Non-emergency contact information

✓ As much information as you have about how they go above and beyond to give back to their community. For example:

  • What causes and/or nonprofit organizations do they support in their community?

  • Tell us a story about how they support these causes in their community. List any positive impacts you are aware of.

  • How is your nominee planning to support their community in the future?

Once you’ve gathered this information, simply complete our nomination form and you’re all set! We take care of the rest by making sure each nominated department or member knows how much they are appreciated.

Awards

Here’s what happens after you submit your nomination.

  • Each National Life Do Good Hero will have a unique profile* built on our website discussing the service work they’re doing in their communities.

  • Throughout the year, we’ll highlight nominated departments and members on social media, along with any community organizations they support.

  • Every National Life Do Good Hero will receive a personalized certificate to celebrate their nomination.

  • We notify the local press about the work their local nominees are doing in their community.

Most importantly, every nominee has a shot of being selected as one of our National Life Do Good Hero award winners - which means a chance for them to win cash awards to donate to a nonprofit of their choice. All cash awards are provided by the National Life Group Foundation.

The following cash awards will be given in 2024.

  • One $1,000 cash prize to donate to a nonprofit of the nominee’s choice. Additionally, these winners will be eligible for our Grand Prize.

Four $500 cash prizes to donate to a nonprofit of the nominee’s choice.

Winners will be chosen from among the pool of nominations received up to this point. The first set of winners will be chosen in February.

  • Nominations for the 2024 Do Good Heroes program close on December 31st, 2024. In the spring of 2025, two nominees (one fire-rescue and one police) from the pool of $1,000 monthly winners will be chosen to receive an additional $5,000 to donate to a nonprofit of their choice.

You don’t need to resubmit your nomination, but if your nominee has done any service work since then, we’d love to hear about it!

  • Checks will be distributed within 30 days after we receive the nonprofit’s mailing address.
